Jaded

There was a time

when all I wanted

was to be part of your shadow

Basking in your glory

that shone like the sun

surrounded by the faithful

we were one

big

happy

family

How quickly the light dimmed

Fading away

almost as fast as it started

Friendship soured

so many promises broken

Hurt and betrayed

I have carried on

matured

 become rather jaded

Not so gullible

I can count on one hand

the few people

I can still trust

You cannot tempt me now

My shell is much tougher

than it used to be

and I will never fall

for your silly tricks

or anyone else’s

ever

again
